Who am I?
My name is Fred, I am from Lyon, France and I was born in 1976. I am passionate about the French language and it’s become my field of expertise.
I first devoted myself to arts as a project and PR manager. This led me to write promotional material and grant applications for numerous artists or events, as well as to take part in several publishing ventures. Over the years, I’ve also maintained a more intimate connection with writing through my own literary production, mostly fiction, poetry and blog articles.
Later on, I obtained three degrees in language teaching, and taught French, English and contemporary history in Cambodia, India and China. During that time, I also had the opportunity to freelance as a proofreader, copywriter and translator. Now settled in Berlin, I focus on the latter activities. Among other clients, I regularly work for two reputed agencies: Scribbr (academic proofreading) and Textbroker (marketing content and blog articles).
Having read, written, taught, proofread and translated French in a multitude of contexts, from reviewing university theses to writing press releases, I’ve acquired an in-depth knowledge of my mother tongue. Clarity, style, spelling, syntax, grammar, conjugation, punctuation and abbreviations are all areas that I master perfectly.
As a French proofreader, I offer authors a meticulous and benevolent support, which can range from basic corrections to rephrasing, depending on my customers’ needs.
As a copywriter and translator, I can adapt and identify the appropriate tone and language register for any content or target audience. My main focus is mainly journalistic or promotional texts on themes such as arts, culture, trends, society, humanities, current affairs, tourism, education, new technologies, events or marketing. I also have notions in layout, SEO and HTML.
My knowledge of English, a language I’ve been speaking every day for 10 years in addition to teaching it, prevents me from falling into the pitfalls of “literal” translation. When necessary, I do the necessary research to deepen my understanding of a subject and make sure I use the proper technical terms.
My missions as a cultural projects manager and as an educator gave me a strong sense of team spirit and the capacity to adapt quickly to unexpected situations. I also acquired the habit of establishing and following protocols to achieve efficiency. I enjoy working from home and I do not mind working late at night or on weekends whenever necessary. Meeting deadlines is an absolute priority in my line of work, and I pride myself on never failing to do so.
Polishing a text is what I love doing the most, and it’s also what I do best. I will, therefore, be happy to devote my time and passion to your projects.
Services and fees
Depending on how complex a task is, prices vary. Quality is always guaranteed, precision and technicity depend on your needs and content.
For example, proofreading a text by a non-native French speaker may require more work than proofreading one by a native speaker.
Similarly, certain texts use a lot of technical terms or require specific knowledge. Translating or writing such content is more time consuming than working on a text that only contains everyday language and common knowledge.
Price will also be affected by the delivery deadline.
Besides the word rate, an entrance fee of 7€ covers email or phone exchanges about the project, pricing calculation, invoice generation, etc. This fee can be negociated for group orders or a series of tasks involving similar content.
